Due to me moving to Tasmania, I will be able to offer new course dates from June onwards.

Who is the Metal Monkey?

I am a former teacher turned knifemaker living and working in Tasmania's beautiful Huon Valley. I found my passion for kitchen knives through a growing interest in cooking, preserving and baking. There was just one problem: The knives I had at home just didn’t cut it. So I started restoring old carbon steel knives, got hooked and moved quickly on to making my own.

Fast forward from 2015, I am now a full time knife maker specialising in high-end custom knives. I enjoy the dialogue with my customers from all over the world and the opportunity to create their dream kitchen tools. It truly motivates me to innovate and constantly challenge myself in my craft seeing the joy and hearing the stories that come with using a Metal Monkey Knife.

I use a range of special cutlery steels from Germany, Japan and the US for my blades and make my own Damascus steel and San Mai with individual organic patterns. I use ethically sourced materials for my handles with predominantly Australian timbers.

The appreciation of high quality hand made products is something I’d like to bring back to people’s homes and kitchens. It feels great knowing that my knives will stay with my customers and their families for generations to come. This is my humble counterweight to today’s throw away society.
